8. Unfriendly people

Unfriendly people
/ʌnˈfrɛn(d)li/ /ˈpiːp(ə)l/

There were two spacemen in the flying saucer and they had come from another world.
/ðɛː/ /wə/ /tuː/ /ˈspeɪsmen/ /ɪn/ /ðə/ /ˈflʌɪɪŋ/ /ˈsɔːsə/ /ənd/ /ðeɪ/ /had/ /kʌm/ /frɒm/ /əˈnʌðə/ /wəːld/
They opened the door of the flying saucer and climbed out.
/ðeɪ/ /ˈəʊp(ə)nd/ /ðə/ /dɔː/ /ɒv/ /ðə/ /ˈflʌɪɪŋ/ /ˈsɔːsə/ /ənd/ /klʌɪmd/ /aʊt/
They saw the van standing at the side of the road.
/ðeɪ/ /sɔː/ /ðə/ /van/ /ˈstandɪŋ/ /ət/ /ðə/ /sʌɪd/ /ɒv/ /ðə/ /rəʊd/
‘ Perhaps we shall find some people in this strange thing’, one of the spacemen said in his own strange language.
/pəˈhaps/ /wiː/ /ʃal/ /fʌɪnd/ /sʌm/ /ˈpiːp(ə)l/ /ɪn/ /ðɪs/ /streɪn(d)ʒ/ /θɪŋ/’, /wʌn/ /ɒv/ /ðə/ /ˈspeɪsmen/ /sɛd/ /ɪn/ /hɪz/ /əʊn/ /streɪn(d)ʒ/ /ˈlaŋɡwɪdʒ/
They looked around the van but they did not see anyone.
/ðeɪ/ /lʊkt/ /əˈraʊnd/ /ðə/ /van/ /bʌt/ /ðeɪ/ /dɪd/ /nɒt/ /siː/ /ˈɛnɪwʌn/
Then they opened the back door of the van and climbed inside.
/ðɛn/ /ðeɪ/ /ˈəʊp(ə)nd/ /ðə/ /bak/ /dɔː/ /ɒv/ /ðə/ /van/ /ənd/ /klʌɪmd/ /ɪnˈsʌɪd/
They saw all the boxes and opened one on which ‘Baby Dolls’ was written.
/ðeɪ/ /sɔː/ /ɔːl/ /ðə/ /bɒksɪz/ /ənd/ /ˈəʊp(ə)nd/ /wʌn/ /ɒn/ /wɪtʃ/ /ˈbeɪbi/ /dɒlz/ /wəz/ /ˈrɪtn/
Inside the box, there were several dolls.
/ɪnˈsʌɪd/ /ðə/ /bɒks/, /ðɛː/ /wə/ /ˈsɛv(ə)r(ə)l/ /dɒlz/
‘There are some people in here!’ one spaceman cried.
/ðɛː/ /ɑː/ /sʌm/ /ˈpiːp(ə)l/ /ɪn/ /hɪə//wʌn/ /ˈspeɪsman/ /krʌɪd/
‘And they are at the same side as we are’, said the other spaceman
/ənd/ /ðeɪ/ /ɑː/ /ət/ /ðə/ /seɪm/ /sʌɪd/ /az/ /wiː/ /ɑː//sɛd/ /ði/ /ˈʌðə/ /ˈspeɪsman/
‘Good morning, how are you?’ he said to the dolls.
/ɡʊd/ /ˈmɔːnɪŋ/, /haʊ/ /ɑː/ /juː//hiː/ /sɛd/ /tə/ /ðə/ /dɒlz/
The dolls said nothing.
/ðə/ /dɒlz/ /sɛd/ /ˈnʌθɪŋ/
‘We have come from another world to meet you,’ the first spaceman explained.
/wiː/ /hav/ /kʌm/ /frɒm/ /əˈnʌðə/ /wəːld/ /tə/ /miːt/ /juː//ðə/ /fəːst/ /ˈspeɪsman/ /ɪkˈspleɪnd/
But the dolls did not move or speak.
/bʌt/ /ðə/ /dɒlz/ /dɪd/ /nɒt/ /muːv/ /ɔː/ /spiːk/
‘They are not very friendly,’ said the second spaceman sadly.
/ðeɪ/ /ɑː/ /nɒt/ /ˈvɛri/ /ˈfrɛn(d)li//sɛd/ /ðə/ /ˈsɛk(ə)nd/ /ˈspeɪsman/ /ˈsadli/
Just then, the spacemen heard someone whistling outside the van.
/dʒʌst/ /ðɛn/, /ðə/ /ˈspeɪsmen/ /hə:d/ /ˈsʌmwʌn/ /ˈwɪs(ə)lɪŋ/ /aʊtˈsʌɪd/ /ðə/ /van/
They looked out and saw William carrying a tin of petrol.
/ðeɪ/ /lʊkt/ /aʊt/ /ənd/ /sɔː/ /ˈwɪljəm/ /ˈkariɪŋ/ /ə/ /tɪn/ /ɒv/ /ˈpɛtr(ə)l/
‘Another person is coming,’ cried the first spaceman.
/əˈnʌðə/ /ˈpəːs(ə)n/ /ɪz/ /kʌmɪŋ/ /krʌɪd/ /ðə/ /fəːst/ /ˈspeɪsman/
‘He is much bigger than these people.’
/hiː/ /ɪz/ /mʌtʃ/ /bɪɡə/ /ðan/ /ðiːz/ /ˈpiːp(ə)l/
‘But he looks friendly,’ the second spaceman said.

/bʌt/ /hiː/ /lʊks/ /ˈfrɛn(d)li//ðə/ /ˈsɛk(ə)nd/ /ˈspeɪsman/ /sɛd/
